The Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized Feb. 4, 1914, at the Congregational Church, under the leadership of Pastor C.A. Johnson of Swede Valley Lutheran Church. Twenty-nine charter members and 42 children were received into membership on that day. The congregation was received into the Iowa Conference of the Augustana Lutheran Church when it met at Stanton, Iowa, in 1915.

Recorded charter members included: Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Berglof, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Gustaf E. Hagberg, Mr. and Mrs. John O. Lindgren, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Erickson, Mr. and Mrs. Erik N. Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel E. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Carl G. Lindholm, Mr. and Mrs.Carl I. Hammarstedt, Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Erickson, Dr. and Mrs. Carl O. Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Swanson, Emma Estella Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Anders W. Johnson, and Mr. and Mrs. Algot Berglof.

The following officers were elected: C.E. Berglof, Dr. C. O. Nelson, and Oscar Lindgren, deacons and C. H. Lindholm, J.L. Johnson and E. N. Peterson were trustees.

On March 26, 1914 the trustees concluded a deal whereby they became the owners of the Van Meter property on which the church now stands.
